Newport, Rhode Island

We took our first family outing to explore the area. We drove to Newport, RI, a little less than an hour away, and had an enjoyable day seeing the beauty of the ocean and learning about the history of the town. It is a quaint little town and one we will definitely want to visit again.

It looks like you visited the tower in Touro park -- that's the park where Judy and I got engaged (way back when). There is some really interesting history on that tower in your photo here:

Also, in the summers there is the Newport Music Festival which features classical music concerts held in some of the mansions. I've been to a few and they are very nice, and in the past, pretty inexpensive. Their main website is down but looks like they're getting 2008's program going here: http://www.newport-online.org/nmf.htm
